For this half semester long project, we were asked to create a package completely from scratch. We also had to create a logo for a company. The idea for the ramp came to me at work. I used to like finger boards as a kid, and I thought about how great it would be to have a ramp that would also be used as a carrying case. From that inspiration, I started designing prototypes to get the right curve of the ramp. I was going to use poster board originally, then I decided to use wood. I used balsa wood because it is thin and easy to cut with an X-ACTO blade. It is also a very bendable wood that would work well for the curve. I designed the hinge by placing a piece of cell phone cleaning cloth between two pieces of wood on one side. Then, on the other side, the piece is connected to the door. I also used regular Elmer’s Glue to attach everything. For the logo on the wood I used iron on paper to get it to stay. I also made two shelves to hold some boards, cones and some tools for traveling. The last thing I designed was the paper that shows the contents of the package that was held in by the door but not fully connected.
